August 21, 2017

Well this p day is going to be busy we need to take the truck into the dealer to do maintenance on it so we need to be in Santa Fe at  10:30, fun right. So yea today will be busy also I have a story for you today. We did a church  tour and the first words out of their mouth was this place is beautiful as we were walking up (something to note there is a lot of churches in Las Vegas and is has a lot of devoted Catholics and there is a lot of big buildings that show how small our church really is). When we walked in Anjelina said there is "the presence of god in this church" and just kept saying that it was beautiful and trying to describe the spirit. It was the coolest thing that has happened this week till yesterday we walked up to a man who was working on a little wall and we offered to help. He asked spiritually or with the work? We said both and he laughed and we ended up giving a Book of Mormon to him. And we got his address and we'll be seeing him Tuesday and helping him work and Thursday we will be teaching him. He also has 9 siblings in town and he ends up helping them with work around the house a lot so we think we might see a way in to have 9 new families. That's been my week with only one good picture its a rat on my arm :)

August 14, 2017

This week has flown by and I am not sure what happened. We helped move some people into the dorms at the college. We dig a lot of trenches and I've been doing a lot of tree work and just other landscaping work so my boots are very helpful. School will be starting here soon too. It is odd here how the schools are. Lots of changes are happening with reorganization of the school district so lots of things are changing and its a mess. It has been raining a lot here and its actually colder here then where you are. It's been in the 60's. Other than that not much has happened. We did try several new ways to find people like bike tracking and hanging around the plaza. So that's what happened this week, been kinda slow. We did get another hail storm and a tornado warning. We found out about the warning after wards but all it well.

August 7, 2017

I'm staying in Las Vegas. Just like last timer every other companionship was hit but mine si I'll br here for another 6 weeks. Not much has happened this week. There was a motorcycle rally in town but we stayed away from that. We did a lot of service this week. Our branch mission leader got back in town  so we went to an old fort last week for p-day. Fort Union is what it is called and not much is left of it just the foundation and some walls. I've met most of the branch but I should get to meet the rest this transfer because school starts in 3ish weeks. Other than that not much has happened but we got hit with more hail yesterday-_-.

We did do a lot of service this week more than most. We email in the family history room at the church. The library is not in a good place. We use service to try and get in the door and usually they listen to us after they get to know that we are not robots and are real people, Zone conference was really good.

July 31, 2017

This weeks has been wet and rainy. It has rained everyday for at least 10 min. The most was for 3 hours non stop where we were working. We found out that 3 out of the 4 sisters for training calls so that means at least two people are leaving. And this district has been together for 3 transfers until I came in this last transfer. Also this is the last week in this transfer and I find out in Friday if I'll be moving.

I do live in an apartment and we were the best members this week because everyone else is out of town or lives out of town. So we so a a lot involving the priesthood and responsibilities of the quorums.

July 24, 2017

This area is a little different. there are a lot of ranchers so going to them is kinds hard because they are so far out there. But the landscape is beautiful and there is nothing on it just open fields. We still do missionary work like normal knocking doors, talking to people. We will be able to go and set up a booth at the college campus in August once classes have started. We might get ab copy of a replica gold plates, so that's kinda cool. Oh yeah look up World College. It's odd but it's the only one in the Unites States is in Las Vegas NM.

I have gotten to know almost all the families in the branch. There is a family that has been here just a few days more than I. They are cool. There are a lot of interesting people here. I got the package along with a package from Grandma Dubois, that was kinda funny. Pamela looks so cute in the pictures and it will be good for everyone to know how to swim. The drive to Santa Fe is just the same long road every time. We go because of district council. We meet with the district leader in Santa Fe. We get more miles than the sisters so that's why we always drive. The branch is cool. I love the 3rd Sunday, we have a potluck and it's yummy.

Nothing much has happened this week except I found a family of an elder I met in the MTC. And we drove to and from Santa Fe 4 times this week. That's 130 miles round trip and at least an hour each way. We have drove a lot . The truck has almost hit 300 miles and it was brand new. The branch has a pot luck every three weeks and we had one yesterday. It was yummy. Nothing has really progressed with our investigators. We have tried something to help them know all that they need to know so hopefully it works.

July 10, 2017

This is mostly a driving area just because of the size. I have been to Santa Fe twice and I am going today and tomorrow as well. We go so much because we are just so far from everyone else. It's just easier. The weather is crazy. We had a lot of rain and it hailed for like 20 min. The ward is a branch. We get  about 20 - 30 members a week. They feed us when they can but we eat at home a lot. I was wondering if you could send me some recipe for the next week that are fast and easy. . This is a ranching town. Our branch president has 1300 acres, I think or something crazy like that. There are a lot of interesting people here. There is a pirate lady that walks around saying pirate things. We have a lot of potentials that we should find out more next week. Also I would love to get a copy of Hank Smith CD's.

July 3, 2017

The shirts are fine and the fit and work. The town is small but we have a lot of area around it. Sending pictures are fine. I haven't been home sick and I've had the pictures up since I got t the mission field, so send them if you have them. Las Vegas ghas a huge 4th of July festival. It's four days long and they have a little plaza here and it's like a little fairgrounds in there. Then the high school has all the rides which is just a few blocks away. It's crazy here and so are the people. We have the state mental hospital in Las Vegas and apparently people leave the hospital a lot more than they should so they just walk around. It's fun. We are in a branch, we have like 30 active members but they are solid. It's really cool we have a truck. It's a Tacoma 2017 and we have put 1300 miles on it in this area and they have had it for 3 weeks. We have to go to Santa Fe at least once a week sometimes more, yea it's fun.

My companion is Elder Chesler and he had been out 10 months, he's a good guy.

This picture I think the boys will like, it has a suppressor.

I got a sweet text from a  family hta Garret became close with, the Kear family. Him and his companion went over there often even on Mother's Day to talk with us.

We are going to miss your sons! Great missionaries! We love them. They have brought a wonderful spirit into our home. You should be pleased with their service. Enjoy!

June 26, 2017

Well I am getting transferred and I'm going to Las Vegas New Mexico. I leave tomorrow so I got white washed. Ask dad what that means. We got the call at 10:00 on Friday after an amazing day. We got to do something no on else in the mission has been able to do. We got to go up to Zions Camp and reenact the movies Zions Camp. I was dressed for my part, the starting role, the narrator. Ill send home the script when I unpack in Las Vegas. There is a video so I hope to get it. But it was such a cool experience. We got to talk and teach the youth ( it was both boys and girls) and some of the  neat things that happened were because of one non member. He asked questions for an hour and a half about the church to their Mormon friends. So yea that's been my week and I went to Cuba, somewhere not many missionaries go even though it is in our ward boundaries. I am going at least 3 hours away and it's to far for me to coma back for the baptism, sadly.

June 19, 2017

Everything is good here. We had a few families move in and at least on of them are missionary minded. Transfers are next week so I'll find out if I'm moving soon. I know that my companion is moving, haha. Funny right. He is still waiting to wake up in his first transfer and have all this be a dream. We have someone with a date to be baptized. It will happen on July 8th. Her name is Sally and she is 74 yr old. She has pretty much adopted me and Elder Lester. She is a master with a sewing machine and she knows how to keep shirts white. I haven't had time to wash the shirts yet that you sent so AI haven't worn them. I will wash them tonight and I'll let you know next week how they fit. Other than that nothing has happened but I got a hair cut today and I like it.

June 12, 2017

Things have been good. Its so weird we could have nothing to do for hours then out of no where we have too much to do. I'm glad Lance graduated. I dot the package and saw the invitation and realized it was that night he graduated. I got the stuff for grandpa's mom put in but more information would be helpful. It is funny that they brought up Lance being famous during graduation. Yes I still eat lots of chicken. Last night we had grilled chicken and last night it was chicken enchiladas, so yea lots of chicken. Toda I get to try golf so this should be funny. Not much has changed but for a story I'm going to tell dad because I'm lazy and don't want to type it twice. But other than that nothing new. My companion does not want to leave, he said it does not feel real.

Here is a picture while biking

April 18, 2017

I crashed a bike on splits (not my bike). I was going own hill and took the turn too fast and the bike tipped over with me on it. Then I slid 4 to 6 feet. But we have an investigator that is a sweet old woman who likes working with clothed so she said she would see what she could do with it. I'll send picture when I get it back. My ward is nice but there is a lot of work to do to get the people more involved in the work. My funds are fine and the mission has lots of bikes and parts back at the mission office and with the missionaries. So I didn't need to buy a bike.

Yes I did get my package. Look at my supply now. I didn't write yesterday because we had a trainer and trainee meeting all day.

 Love you.

Text from a family in NM

Hi Sister Dubois,
Your sweet missionary is eating dinner with us tonight! He is on splits today so he is not in my ward. He is doing fine but had a mishap today.

Trashed his shirt

My response: Thank you so much!!! I love it. I hope he is ok. Guess he is taking after his dad with crashing on his bike. You made my day. Thank you for having him for dinner.

She responded: No problem, we love our missionaries.

April 10, 2017 - My Week

This week so much has happened it feels like I've been here for a long time but it's only been a week. So weird! I wish I could remember all that has happened but I left my notebook at home. Ill try to be better. One thing I do remember is that we found this really col kid named Oba and we have been helping him understand his relationship the God. He has a lot of really good questions. Its so cool to see him grow. Ill keep you informed about him but I'm running out of time so this is what I've got for today and please forgive the spelling. Also we get one hour a week to work on family history and I ran into a block. Could you help by getting Grandpa Gary's mom info; birth, death, etc. and I also need dad's mom and dad's parents. That would help so much and thank you for the help.

Elder Dubois New Mexico.

My companion is great. His name is Elder Lester and he is from Idaho. I would like my boots sent. My address is 2401 High Desert Circle Rio Rancho ,NM 87144. The downstairs looks great. Thanks for the picture. NM is a lot like Phoenix and we live in a house. The first week has been busy. I love it and love you guys. I've been out for a month and how exciting, right. I love you and if all of you email I will answer you individually. Love you

Sincerely Elder Dubois
